Here is the complete list of what to ask, and what the answers should sound like.
Start here. These four questions reveal more than anything else.
Questions about experience
How many full weddings have you covered from start to finish?
This is the first and most important question. A content creator who has covered three weddings is a very different proposition from one who has covered thirty. Full wedding experience from bridal prep to last dance is different from ceremony-only or a few hours here and there. A confident, specific answer is what you are looking for. Vagueness is a red flag.
Have you worked at my venue before?
Venue knowledge matters. A creator who knows the light in the ceremony room, the flow of the courtyard during drinks, and where to stand during the first dance will capture your day more effectively than someone arriving blind. If they have not worked at your venue, ask what they do to prepare for a new one.
Do you have experience working alongside a professional wedding photographer?
This is the question most couples forget, and one of the most important. A content creator who does not know how to work around a photographer will get in the way. The right answer describes how they communicate with the photographer before the day, how they position themselves during key moments, and how they ensure they never appear in a professional shot.
Can I see full-day work examples, not just highlight reels?
Highlight reels are the best bits of the best weddings. They do not show you what a full raw gallery looks like, how much content is delivered, or what the quality is like during the less photogenic parts of the day. Ask to see extended footage or a full gallery from a real wedding.
Six things to confirm in writing before you compare any prices.
Questions about what is included
Exactly how many edited Reels are included in this package?
The number of edited Reels varies significantly between providers and between packages. Confirm the exact number before you compare prices. Two Reels and four Reels are very different deliverables.
What is the precise delivery timescale for the raw gallery and for the edited Reels?
Some providers deliver the raw gallery within 24 hours but take considerably longer with the edited Reels. Get a specific answer for each deliverable separately, and get it in writing.
Is a pre-wedding planning call included?
It should be. A creator who does not offer a planning call is not preparing properly for your day.
Is travel included in the price?
Ask specifically about the mileage radius. Beyond it, travel is usually charged at cost. Some providers charge from the first mile. Know this before you sign anything.
What are my full download rights for the content?
Everything delivered should be yours to keep, share and use however you choose, with no restrictions.
What add-ons are available, and what do they cost?
Audio upgrades, same-day preview Reels, live Stories coverage and pre-wedding event coverage are common add-ons. Know what is available and what each costs before you decide on a package.
How they answer these tells you exactly how they will behave on the day.
Questions about how they work on the day
How do you coordinate with my photographer before the wedding?
The answer should describe a specific process. They should be in contact with your photographer ahead of the day to align on the timeline, introduce themselves, and agree on positioning during key moments.
How do you avoid appearing in your photographer's shots?
This requires a direct, practical answer. An experienced creator knows exactly how to position themselves during a ceremony, a first dance, and a bridal portrait session. If the answer is vague, that is what their approach on the day will be too.
How do you handle a wedding day that runs late or changes timeline?
Every wedding runs differently to the plan. The answer here should demonstrate that they have dealt with this before and know how to adapt without missing the moments that matter.
Who do I contact on the day if something comes up?
You should have a direct number for them. This is a professional job and they should be reachable.
Five non-negotiables before you pay a deposit.
Questions about contracts and practicalities
Do you use a contract?
Yes should be the only acceptable answer. A contract protects both of you. If a content creator does not use one, do not book them.
What is your cancellation and rescheduling policy?
Know what happens in both directions. What is your cancellation policy? What is theirs if they cannot attend?
What is your backup plan if you are ill or unable to attend on the day?
This happens occasionally. Know what the plan is before you need it.
How is the content backed up during and after the day?
Your footage should be backed up to the cloud during editing and held securely after delivery. Ask specifically how they protect your content.
Do you have public liability insurance?
Yes should be the answer. Most venues require it. Any professional operating without it is taking a risk that is not worth taking.
What the answers tell you
A creator who answers all of these questions confidently, specifically and without hesitation has done this properly before. They have thought through every aspect of the job, and they take it seriously.
A creator who is vague, defensive, or unprepared for any of these questions is showing you exactly how prepared they will be on your wedding day.
